In early September, Le Ploërmelais presented the takeover of Le Petit Kériquel by Carine Bouchet and her son Erwann. A handover wished for by Élisabeth and Philippe Morizot, who wanted to entrust their house to a new family rather than see it close.
An institution in La Chapelle-Caro
Le Petit Kériquel, formerly « Chez Tante Germaine », is a well-known address in the village of La Chapelle-Caro, in Val d’Oust. A small-scale hotel and restaurant, it welcomes food lovers at the table as well as travellers for the night. After twenty-four years, its former owners could not imagine leaving without passing it on:
“Our children grew up here, we couldn’t imagine just leaving it like that.” (translated from French)
A mother and her son at the helm
Carine Bouchet ran a hotel and restaurant in Ille-et-Vilaine before taking over Le Petit Kériquel. She chose to stay in an area she loves:
“I wanted to stay around Brocéliande, I’m delighted.” (translated from French)
Alongside her, her son Erwann, who worked in the kitchen at Le Pressoir in Saint-Avé, takes over the stoves, following on from chef Morizot.
No revolution on the plate
Erwann offers traditional home-made cooking. The idea is not to change everything, but to keep what gives the place its identity:
“No revolution, because it is precisely this warm, family spirit” that has made the house’s reputation. (translated from French)
On the hotel side, Carine plans to open two additional rooms as soon as possible. The restaurant reopened to the public on Friday 4 September: discover the menu and the rooms, or book a table.
